Take 5 Oil Change is a Driven Brands company with hundreds of service locations across the US, built around fast, no-appointment oil changes and routine maintenance. The engagement covered a full website migration: from a legacy front-end to Next.js and Contentful, and redesigning the scheduling and navigation experience, remediating SEO across the full site. The project kicked off in June 2024. Site launched September 3, 2024.

The Problem


Take 5 had a website that looked functional, but couldn't perform where it mattered. Core Web Vitals: Failed. Lighthouse scores sat in the 20s–40s. LCP on key pages hit 29 seconds. Total Blocking Time exceeded 11 seconds. Customers looking for a quick oil change were met with a scheduling flow that required too many steps and pages too slow to load before they dropped off.

SEO rankings had stalled at position 8 for primary search terms. Traffic was flat. And the content team had no path to self-service — every update required a developer ticket, making campaign execution slow and dependent on engineering capacity that wasn't built to handle it.


The Work


Elevate migrated the platform to Next.js and Contentful, replacing the legacy architecture with a headless CMS and modern front-end framework built for performance and content autonomy.

Performance. Structural issues were addressed at the root: server-side rendering, critical load path optimization, and resolution of the architectural problems producing failing Core Web Vitals. Over 400 pages were rebuilt and migrated into Contentful using a defined component system (Elements, Frames, Blocks, Containers, Pages) developed in Storybook.

Scheduling and navigation. The booking experience was redesigned to reduce friction across the most common user paths — from landing to location selection to appointment confirmation.



The site launched September 3, 2024, with a documented rollback plan — never needed. Post-launch, a production UAT matrix verified all live pages across front-end, functional, schema, header/meta, and GTM dimensions. Content team training was delivered at launch.

Results

  • Lighthouse Performance: 26 → 98

  • Best Practices: 54 → 100

  • Core Web Vitals: Failed → Passed

  • LCP: 29.0s → 1.4s; FCP: 6.3s → 1.3s; Speed Index: 16.3s → 1.3s

  • Total Blocking Time: 11,530ms → 170ms

  • Position 8 → Position 4 on primary keywords within 30 days
